NAE 215 : The Pronunciation of English

Description

This course introduces students to phonetics, including the principles of how the speech sounds of English are produced, classified, and transcribed.

Objectives

On completion of the course, students will:

• understand the principles of articulation
• be familiar with the classification of vowels and consonants
• be able to transcribe phonemically any word of English
• know the structure of the syllable in English
• understand the principles of stress in English
• understand phonemes and allophones

Assessment : There is one test (30%), in which students must show they can classify the sounds of English and transcribe any word of English accurately, and an examination (70%).
